How licensing works
memecub has two kinds of images. Openly licensed ones (public domain, CC0, permissive open-source licenses, CC BY, CC BY-SA) are marked as cleared for commercial use, with their license and credit line. Classic memes collected from the web are marked “Web”: they keep their source, rights stay with the original authors, and they are not cleared for commercial use.
| License | Commercial | Credit | Remix |
|---|---|---|---|
| CC0 1.0 | ✓ | No | ✓ |
| Public Domain | ✓ | No | ✓ |
| MIT | ✓ | Yes | ✓ |
| Apache 2.0 | ✓ | Yes | ✓ |
| CC BY | ✓ | Yes | ✓ |
| CC BY-SA | ✓ | Yes | Share-alike |
When credit is required, the image page gives you a ready-to-copy credit line, and the Markdown snippet includes it.
People shown in photos keep their publicity rights. Even when a photo is CC0, get a release before using a recognizable person in ads or endorsements.
License data comes from the original publisher. If you find a mistake, report it from the image page and we will take the image down while we check.
