memecub

Let your AI agent pick the memes

Once installed, just tell Claude Code, Codex or Cursor “add a few memes to this article”. It reads the piece, picks the spots, searches memecub and inserts the images. No code and nothing to install: copy two lines and you're done.

What it does

  • Illustrate a whole article

After you write a post, memes land right after the lines that deserve them.

  • Find one meme

“Find me a facepalm meme” gives you a few to pick from.

  • Safe for client work

Say it's commercial and it only uses images cleared for commercial use.

Claude Desktop / ChatGPT

These clients don't load skills, so connect memecub's MCP server instead; it works the same way. Server URL:

https://memecub.com/mcp

Claude Desktop

Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name it memecub, paste the URL above, save, and it's available in chats.

ChatGPT

Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced, turn on developer mode, then create a connector with the URL above.

Claude Code and Cursor can use MCP too, though the skill is usually enough:

claude mcp add --transport http memecub https://memecub.com/mcp

Check it works

Ask your agent: “Use memecub to find a facepalm meme”

If it calls memecub and shows you images, you're set. If it says it doesn't know memecub, the install probably didn't run; check the file exists (Claude Code shown), then restart the agent.

ls ~/.claude/skills/memecub

Things to ask

  • 「Add 4 memes to ./post.md and edit the file」
  • 「This is for a client, only use images cleared for commercial use」
  • 「Give me 5 Drake memes to choose from」
  • 「The second one isn't funny enough, swap it」
  • 「Find a meme for “Monday morning at work”」

API key (optional)

Works without a key (120 searches a day). With one you get 300 a day, your private uploads, and server-side article matching.

  1. 1

Sign in, open My library → API keys, click Create key and copy it.

  2. 2

Save it as an environment variable (replace mb_xxx with your key):

    Mac / Linux

    echo 'export MEMECUB_API_KEY=mb_xxx' >> ~/.zshrc && source ~/.zshrc

    Windows (PowerShell)

    setx MEMECUB_API_KEY mb_xxx
  3. 3

Restart the terminal and your agent; the skill picks the key up automatically.

FAQ

Does it cost anything?

It's free: 120 searches a day without a key, 300 with one.

Windows says curl isn't found?

Windows 10 and later ship curl.exe; use the PowerShell commands above, which call curl.exe.

The agent found nothing that fits?

Try another phrasing. For brand-new memes memecub fetches more in the background; try again in a minute.

Not happy with a pick?

Tell the agent, e.g. “make the second one funnier” or “no animals”, and it searches again.

Can I use the images commercially?

Every image says whether it's cleared for commercial use. For client work, tell the agent it's commercial.
